Brokenness: God's Strategy in a Christian's Life
". . .Why do you not know how to interpret the present time?" (Luke 12:56) "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit" (John 12:24). Brokenness. It is certainly not a popular subject among Gospel preachers these days, though the fact of the matter is that it has never been particularly popular as a sermon topic. Yet, it is one of God's major strategies in the life of all Christians. One cannot arrive at any semblance of maturity in the Christian faith without coming to understand how God uses it to work out His purposes in our lives. Does God Exist? ABC Debate
Last night ABC Nightline featured a face-off with Kirk Cameron from the 80's sit-com "Growing Pains" and his preacher, Roy Comfort of the "Way of the Master" congregation on one side and two atheists who called themselves the Rational Responders Squad (Brian Sapient and a woman who refused to give her last name but called Kelly) on the other. They certainly came at it from the point of view of Truth with a capital T. Their claim that God is 100% scientifically provable, however, overplays their hand. While the evidence from design suggests ...

Screwtape Revisited
My dear Wormwood, I am disappointed in you. I told you before that your campaign to have AHappy Holidays replace Merry Christmas had to be undertaken with infinitesimal patience in order that it be accomplished through persuasion not commands. It is one thing to persuade businesses that they offend fewer people by substituting the generic Ahappy holidays instead of the traditional AMerry Christmas. It is quite another to have them forbid their employees to say Merry Christmas. Human beings, weak-kneed contemptible creatures that they are, nonetheless cling to their so-called Afree will as though their miserable little souls depended upon it. Most often their stubborness works in our ...

Baptism

In introduction, there are several things to emphasize as we begin this study.

1. We do not believe in Baptismal Regeneration. Let me remind you that it was over the question of the sacraments that Calvin and Luther differed during the Reformation Period. To Calvin, and those who have followed him, the important thing is the individual's coming directly to Christ for salvation. In regard to baptism, we who are Presbyterians, are interested primarily not in the water baptism but in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which takes place when the individual accepts Christ as his personal Saviour.

Our Confession of Faith, Chapter 28, Section 5, makes it very clear that ...
